Chocolate Cannabis Torte With Citrus Yogurt

Chocolate Cannabis Torte With Citrus Yogurt

Recipe by Ziggy Samuels

More flour-heavy than the average chocolate torte recipe, this weed-infused edible sits somewhere between a torte and a space cake.
That said, with whole grain flour, yogurt, and honey, it’s almost a healthy dessert! (Emphasis on “almost”.)

Chocolate Cannabis Torte Ingredients

  • Chocolate Torte
  • 2 cups 2 whole-grain flour (of your choosing)

  • 2/3 cups 2/3 plain yogurt

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 milk

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cannabutter

  • 3/4 cup 3/4 honey

  • 2 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cocoa

  • 1 tsp 1 vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 sea salt

  • 1 tsp 1 baking soda

  • Citrus Yoghurt Frosting
  • 1 cup 1 Greek yoghurt

  • 1 tsp 1 vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp 1 lemon zest (freshly grated)

  • 3 tbsp 3 honey

Chocolate Cannabis Torte Recipe

  • Soak the Flour
  • Mix the yogurt (2/3 cup) and milk together in a medium-sized bowl.
  • Add the whole-grain flour to the mix and stir well, ensuring a smooth consistency.
  • Cover the bowl and set the mix aside to stand for a minimum of 8 hours (up to 24).
  • Bake the Torte
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F with an oven rack placed on the middle shelf. (Also, this recipe presumes you’ve pre-made your cannabis oil or butter.)
  • Grease or butter two baking trays, ideally two 9″ cake pans.
  • Combine and mix the torte’s ingredients in a bowl (melted cannabutter, honey, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, salt, cocoa). Whisk thoroughly.
  • Pour the mixture into the set-aside pre-soaked flour and mix together until smooth – use a hand-held beater or mixer for the best results.
  • Pour the batter into the greased/buttered pans.
  • Bake the cannabis tortes for 25 to 30 minutes. (Check on the tortes’ progress with a cake tester or similar object. Insert the object into the torte; it should come out clean and warm.)
  • Allow the tortes to stand and cool for 5 to 10 minutes before removing them from the pans onto a cooling rack.
  • Yogurt Frosting
  • Grate your lemon zest (any citrus zest will work though).
  • Mix the yogurt, zest, honey, and vanilla together in a bowl.
  • Refrigerate the yogurt until the torte is sufficiently cool to be frosted.
  • Either top the chocolate torte and refrigerate to create a firmer frosting or serve the torte with yogurt topping instead.
  • Blast off and enjoy the stars. 🙂

The Recipe in Action!

Notes

  • Regarding dosing and the strength of your weed-infused edibles, keep in mind that cannabutter and canna-oil are relatively interchangeable in a recipe with their uninfused counterparts. For example, for a lower-strength edible, you could swap the recipe’s requirements of a half-cup of cannabutter with a quarter-cup of cannabutter and a quarter-cup of regular butter instead.
  • This is a more healthy-orientated 420-dessert recipe, however, it’s still heavier on the flour than a lot of other tortes. If you’re looking for a gluten-free torte, you can tweak this one by replacing the whole-grain flour with an alternative (like almond flour) for a flourless chocolate weed torte!
  • I used Greek yogurt for the frosting. That said, yogurt cheese or even creamy sweetened cheeses will go down a treat too. Or, if you’re feeling really wild, try our coconut weed pudding recipe as well and serve them up together! C’mooooooon. You only live once.

FAQs About Chocolate Cannabis Torte

You got Q’s, I got A’s. I also got T’s, but today, I’m only showing you my A’s. 😉

I might be a bit of a loose tart, but I ain’t quite as loose and tarty as a slice of freshly baked cranberry and orange weed bread! You’ll have to buy me dinner before you get the T’s that go along with these A’s.

A torte is a type of cake but differentiated by its richer and denser texture. Unlike traditional cakes, tortes generally use little to no flour, instead incorporating ground nuts, breadcrumbs, or other ingredients. The end result is a moist, fudgy consistency much different from its lighter and fluffier cake counterparts.

Oh that OG Sachertorte recipe? The official recipe is, funnily enough, a closely guarded secret of the Hotel Sacher in Vienna. But generally, the Sachertorte is baked as a dense, chocolate sponge cake with a layer of apricot jam in the center and a smooth, dark chocolate glaze coated all around the torte.

The secret to baking a cannabis chocolate torte or any other space cake is to first prepare cannabutter! This THC-infused butter replaces regular butter in your favorite recipes for the ULTIMATE 420 desserts. There are a lot of ways to go about preparing cannabutter (and cannabis cooking oil too), but I strongly recommend making cannabutter the quick and easy way with a specialized infusion machine.

While the strength of your edible as well as your own tolerance affects this greatly, 4 to 8 hours is a safe metric. The onset of the effects can be hard to gauge, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours. But once you’re up, you can coast through a whole day in a fluffy headspace on one or two weed-edible servings.

The Origins of the Torte: A Dessert of Royalty

The recipe for chocolate torte has its origins rooted in European culinary tradition. Hailing from Austria, the most famous rendition of this decadent delight, the Sachertorte, was created in 1832 in Vienna by one Franz Sacher.

The original chocolate torte recipe - the Sachertorte - being presented in the Austrian imperial court to the prince and numerous nobles.
An edible fit for kings.

At 16 years old, this young apprentice in the court and kitchen of Prince Metternich was tasked with creating a “special” dessert. (Not that kind of special: that comes later.) With the head chef ill, VIP guests pouring in, and the consequences of failure dire, Sacher got to work designing the legendary reinvention of the cake to lavish upon the court’s guests.

The result was magnanimous success! Creating the Sachertorte, the OG chocolate torte recipe, the young apprentice had concocted a simple but sinfully delightful variation of a chocolate cake. The dense, layered, and, most of all, delectable dessert secured both his and his creation’s place in Viennese history while also allowing him to keep his head connected to his shoulders. (The debated history of the torte recipe even went insofar as to initiate divisive cross-border legal battles with other dessert pioneers of the 1800s.)

Today, variations of this recipe for the Sacher-inspired chocolate torte have spread across the globe, with each region adding its unique twist and flair. Combining simplicity with luxury (and tasting damn good with ice cream!), this historical wonder continues to captivate chocolate connoisseurs the world over.

And Then We Added Weed!

It’s like a chocolate space cake but with a bit more punch!

Look, we can split hairs over the differences between a torte and a cake until we’re bald. Admittedly, this particular recipe sits somewhere in between while also attempting something a dash healthier and more subtle than Sacher’s royalty-charming invention. But goddamn if it don’t slap!

Tweak this chocolate torte recipe or hunt down a more authentic one online and leave your thoughts on the final product in the comments down below. May the court of public opinion decide (hurhurhur). Or you can also give a more straightforward recipe, like good ol’ ginger space cookies, a try.

But as far as chocolate cannabis tortes go, this is a hard win for the high. It’s a solid serving of scrumptious chocolate weed cake that doesn’t sit in a heavy and gluggy pile in your stomach while you’re space-sailing.

And, of course, that just means you have room for seconds. 😉
